Mike Deed, Managing Director of Ipswich-based Geoquip Water Solutions, is running the London Marathon in April and hopes to raise thousands of pounds for Orchid, the only UK cancer charity that focuses entirely on male-specific cancers.
“As a survivor of a male-specific cancer I’m only too aware of how important it is to bring these cancers into the public eye,” explained Mike. “This year alone 37,000 men will be diagnosed with a male-specific cancer and the Orchid charity exists to save men’s lives from testicular, prostate and penile cancers through pioneering research and promoting awareness.”
“Like most men, I tend to ignore health issues, but when I found a lump, going to the Doctor immediately meant I was one of the lucky ones. If in some small way I can help to make a difference and increase awareness of these cancers then the long training sessions, sore feet and muscle pain will all be worth it!”
Mike has committed to raise £2,000 and would be delighted to receive any amount people can offer in sponsorship for this very worthwhile cause. On his last fund-raising venture for the 2009 London Marathon Mike raised £4,600 and he is keen to make an even bigger contribution in 2011. Thank you for your support.
