Perth (Metro Park) Case StudyMonday, 20 August 2012
A 30m deep fibreglass well, part of the Perth Metropolitan area supply system, had suffered from severe iron oxide clogging for over 12 years. Since 2007, the local government had attempted regular rehabilitation with a surge block and hydrochloric acid, with limited success. We were given the opportunity to inspect the well just before and then after this year’s scheduled rehabilitation to obtain measurements. After the contractor surged the well with HCL and then carried out a further air surging there was still no measureable improvement in the specific capacity. We were then invited to attempt a rehabilitation of the well using the BoreSaver Phased Treatment System. The Phased Treatment System comprised a gentle surging using 20kg of BoreSaver Ultra C combined with 20 L of IKL Pro. Just one phase was enough to achieve a 28% recovery in specific capacity, a substantial increase compared to the previous two rehabilitation attempts. Whilst the previous two rehabilitation systems did remove some of the internal layers of iron oxide from the fibreglass lining, only the BoreSaver Phased Treatment System cleaned behind the slots, the area that makes the greatest difference to well production.
